Abstract
This guideline focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) in adult patients (16 years and
over) in acute and primary care settings. The treatment of IDA is covered to include the place of oral and intravenous
(IV) iron replacement therapy.
For the purpose of the guideline the following clinical situations are not covered:
• pregnancy,
• postpartum anaemia,
• surgery/trauma,
• paediatrics (<16 years),
• patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 4-5.
